Some thoughts, a few links, and a whole lot o' nothin'.

I’ve got so much to say. But I refuse to write five blogs in one day. I want to blog about listening to Donald Miller speak last night at Powells.
I also thought about writing a blog concerning the disappearance of our good friend Ronizee. She has not blogged in exactly a month and her comments have been few and far between. My fear is that she feels as though she has been replaced. Roni, you haven’t been replaced, and we miss your smart ass comments.
I also thought about blogging concerning an odd dilemma that I was presented with while listening to Don. I grew up going to camps with her, I took Greek with her sister, I view and comment on her blog often. And yet when she arrived at Powells I was faced with the dilemma…are we friends? Or, the even greater dilemma, the dilemma that I have been struggling with ever since leaving Portugal, how does one greet women? In Portugal it was easy, you gave them all a kiss on the cheek. Here…well…shaking hands is too unfriendly and manish, giving a hug is often too friendly, and in America there is really nothing inbetween. Nevertheless it was all avoided when she ran out before the show was over.
I also thought about writing down some great ol’ stories from my times in Greece or Luxembourg, from Lubbock or Harding. Stories from when I climbed Mount Olympus or was attacked by a mountain goat. Stories about a man named Blessing and burping in public.
So many thoughts, so much to write…but here is the real purpose of this post: I received my first bit of comment spam! Wahoo! I’ve been waiting for this day my whole life. It is as if everything has been building up to this point. It is my density. I can’t wait until I get so much that I’ll get fed up with it and then add that little verification tool that most people have. You know, the thing that comes up with words like mowhil or twizzle.
Cool.

  1. Although I do not know Ronizee, I feel I must make the statement that I in no way intended to replace anyone…I'm just really cool…or in her absence I am the last resort…both of which I am totally fine with.Congrats on the comment spam…seems like there are some good opportunites there for you.

  2. HA! Lisa and Roni are Arch Nemisi. I love it. But I think you know which one I have my money on. Ryan, now I'll actually comment on your blog and not use it as a meeting place for me and my BFF club. I encounter this blog issue often with "are we friends"? If ever I once again 'meet' Roni or Lisa, are we friends? We talk, like, every day on here, but does our blogship hold up in real life? And if we aren't real life friends, does that make me a little bit of a stalker to assume that we can joke and avoid the akward silences that come with "friends of a friend"? And more importantly, since I communicate with you, Riz, are you and I more friends than me and Franjeca? Does that mean that we are Breast Friends too?I think guy/ girl handshakes are ok, but they're rather formal… Like if you're meeting your husband's professor at a symposium about Indians. But if you aren't sure, nothing is ok too! Hugging is a little creepy and would oft warrant a kick in the piece. But just a smile and "Yo. What's crackin?" Works just as good. I'd actually like that next time I see you: "Yo, Gordon. What's crackin witchewe?" That would be great.

  3. You'd better watch your blog, ronizee…if thats even your real name…. I don't even know you and you.get.all.up.in.my.grill? (Uh…I'm retarded)I'm sure that Arwen's money is on Ronizee, i think mine is too.

  4. hey rizzle, i'd say we are friends (reason being because we have "known" each other so long and are now sort of in semi-regular "contact" with each other–even if it is on the internet–and i try not to be the whole "i'm so snobby that i can't aknowledge your presence even though i vaguely know you" kind of girl). and you could have hugged me and i wouldn't have been awkward about it. a side hug would have been ok if you had felt awkward about it.yeah, i would have came and talked to you, but i had to get in line to get don's autograph on a book for the husband (he couldn't be there) who also grew up without a father (but that's another story).i do have the same dellemma though too . . . at powells i saw a girl i thought i went to high school with and wondered if i should ask her where she went to high school . . . also, i've met don a few times and even partied with him for new years before, but i was too nervous to be like "hey, do you remember me?" cause he meets so many freakin' people! i'm sure he didn't remember me . . .also, jones is super cute! glad you've started him out reading some good stuff.i'm done with my incoherent ramblings now. peace.

  5. Wait a flippin' second. You've hung out with Don! Did he get drunk and dance on a table or anything? I'm waiting to hear all the priceless stories…

  6. We should all get together and have a Super Awkward Blog Friends party. Oh man, think of the fun! We could have one person present a topic, and then the rest of us could respond in paragraph form to that topic…even if it has nothing to do with the topic. And when everyone is done "commenting" then someone else has to present a topic. Eh? Eh? Anyone?

  7. roni: can i play the part of comment spam at said awkward blogger meeting???no, he did not get drunk. yes, he might have had wine. yes, he was super nice. no, i don't think he remembered me (although we've met on several occaisions . . . he's met too many people for my face to stick). yes, our friends performed a rendition of aude laynge sine (did i even come close to spelling that right??) with a harmonica and an accoridian for us that night.other story, he missed a wedding cause he was in the mountains in a cabin writing.lucky.

  8. I would like to ask for your permission to use the Christ Van picture in an upcoming post. Wife says no, so I am asking you since it is an image of you…

  9. I'm trying to figure out if I should hide behind the name of my husband or if I should be bold enough to take three minutes of my precious time and create my own user name. For now, it is clear what I have chosen. I must say that not many people in life have the privilege of being related to such an amusing blogger, and, for that matter, an amusing and quite intelectual human being. Some times I wonder if I, too, could appear intelectual by creating my own blog and decieve everyone into believing that I, too, completed college and have lots of invaluable things to talk about. Perhaps one day I will stop folding clothes and take the time to be a part of what so many people do now… blog. So I leave you with the words of Isabel,"…..zfjfffffdu8e8fgs9idy mjkmk nmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmn. '"
