So I don’t know what I think about global warming. I’m taking my time doing some research and studying both sides. Both sides seem to make it perfectly clear that their sides are the obvious choice. This blog is not about that choice.
Moses made some stupid choices. He killed people. He treated his wife like a whore. He did some stuff that would call his character into question. He also probably wrote most of the first five books of the Old Testament. Does that mean that we cannot trust what he wrote? I don’t think so. There are times when an authors words are put in a way that requires their show of good moral character (I’m not saying Moses was void of moral decency, just go with me here). If Shakespeare was a jerk it doesn’t make his love stories less romantic. They don’t rely on his character. The same could be said of Moses and the Bible. Moses tells us his faults. Moses’ story is corroborated (in some ways) by other people/events. etc. etc.
Joseph Smith was a messed up dude. There are factual accounts (corroborated by legit sources)that show him as a charlatan and a lunatic among other things. He wrote the book of Mormon. Does that mean that we cannot trust the Book of Mormon? I would say at the very least it should call it into serious question because the book (and the background story associated with it) stands on Smiths character. So therefore if he is shown to have a pathetic moral nature we should be forced to call into question books and writings that rely on that nature.
Al Gore has set himself up as one of the leading spokespersons for Global Warming. GW won him an Academy Award. He’s encouraged thousands and thousands of people to be more active in protecting our environment (which is a good thing no matter where you stand on GW). But one must call into question the character of Al. Al has stated that we have ten years to make changes, that in ten years we will have run out of time. In essence, he has taken on the roll of Chicken Little by telling us that the sky is falling…in ten years. If he is right then there must be urgency, intense urgency, immediate urgency (redundant?), urgent urgency (redundant?). And yet, in one month following An Inconvenient Truth, just one of the Gore’s multiple homes used more energy than the average American does in one full year. The response I’ve seen by liberals (some how GW has turned into a liberal/conservative debate…strange) is that it’s ridiculous to debunk GW because one of its spokespersons is “unclean”. While I see this being true, I believe that Gore has made it an issue of his character when he calls the world to an urgent (ten year) response. If that is really true shouldn’t he be responding urgently in reducing his carbon footprint? Does this mean that we throw out Global Warming altogether? Nope. But it does make you wonder doesn’t it?
PS Al Gore is wiener-baby. And that is a fact.

i'm commenting Tara. And it is because AG is a weiner. and by AG, I don't mean me. I mean Al Gore. I don't like hot dogs.But…. I'm going to say that I don't understand what the "debate" on global warming is. It is a scientific fact that the earth's temperature is rising steadily and the climates they are a changing. I personally don't think that there is anything we can do to stop it from happening. I think it's partially a natural thing but we deff do our part to speed up the process. I haven't seen the weiner movie (but I did see Knocked Up last night and I saw a fake rediculous vagina so….. it's the same thing, really) so I don't know what all the hubbub bub is all about, but…. that's what I think.Now…. about character… I originally wrote an Anonymous Style essay on character using a very cliche Hitler analogy (it's not really an analogy, but…. more of an example) and decided that it didn't really go anywhere so I got rid of it. Perhaps if you want to continue talking about this conversation when I return…..remember when you were going to name your son Moses Jones? That was fun.i think your wife wants her computer….
so, moses is ok even though he was a jerk, but al gore and the mormon guy aren't?huh.also, the bees are dying. the EFFING BEES ARE DYING. did you hear about that? when all the bees are dead, humans have about 2 years to live. i'm not kidding. we need the bees in order to EAT. they pollinate our food.so . . . are changes in nature normal? yes. are some of the changes in nature good? yes. are some bad? YES. are some caused by humans? YES! can some be stopped or reversed by humans? YES! should we throw the whole thing out the window just because one mouthpiece is seen to be a wiener by some people? no.cause if that's true, then i am going to stop being a christian. you know why? because of that one big-time preacher (the one that was on the "jesus camp" documentary) that ended up getting caught with a male prostitute and meth. if he is spreading a message of christ and faith and promoting good moral character, but then goes and does something like that . . . i quit. i want nothing to do with christianity.
I had to explain my theory to Jess too. I probably should have explained it more, but I'm just to lazy to type that much. I think you can draw a distinction between Moses and the lds man because Mr. Smith set himself up as virtually the only means of knowing if his message. You either trust him and believe his message or you don't believe it at all. He's the only one who saw certain things, who experienced certain things, and all that kind of stuff that the religion is founded on…therefore, if he's shown to be a huge liar it might cast doubt on a message that relies solely on his word. Moses' message was backed up by signs and miracles that were viewed by lots o people. He may be a murderer, but lots of people saw and experienced what happened, etc. etc…again, my laziness comes into play and I hope you can see a little bit of where I'm going. It could potentially be a slippery slope in some ways, but I think it's a thought process worth pursuing.And again, the Al Gore thing isn't the be all end all, but it should make you think. If you've experienced Christians who have been set up as the leader of all Christendom and then been shown to be liars and hypocrites, I would hope that it would cause you to question Christianity. Right? I'm not saying Global Warming is a joke, but Goreboy makes me want to question it more. Thats all.Am I crazy? Doesn't that make some sense?
I think it should make you question Gores character, but not his message necessarily. He is just the mouth of hundreds of scientists and studies that prove that gw is an issue. Only if all my gw "faith" was built on AG, then would I question his message. The same if all my christian faith was built on one christian who fell to sin. But if my faith is put in the right place, I can have a better understanding of the whole picture. Just because AG has a huge house with huge energy needs, that doesn't discount the scientific facts… ie.. bees are dying!! so are polar bears.

It kinda follows your comment to your own blog: since he is the ONLY person on earth who (1) saw all this, (2) is the ONLY person on earth who God will continue to talk to about His plan, and (3) was a total chump (I was going to use another word here that is abbreviated DB but help myself back) it does call his (yea, "his") whole religion into question. Does it do great things for some people? For sure!! Do I believe in it? Not for me! Does the South Park episode about it make a whole lot more sense to me than what I have heard from real Mormons? Yes! Are all Mormons DB's? No! Where was I going with this? I kinda forgot!Much like Moses, AG's movie is backed by more than just AG.
