The Champion

As I walked into Best Buy for the last time “We Are the Champions” blared over the speakers as I walked in slow motion wearing my smile proudly. I was tempted to be ashamed, embarrassed that they all knew who I was. I was the guy who kept calling and calling and making a fuss about $130. I had been in the store about six times in four days and had called a number of times as well. It wouldn’t have been so bad had this particular Best Buy been a normal busy store. But, no, it is the slowest most dead store I’ve ever been in.
Well I walked in and said proudly, “I’d like to talk to your Operational Manager. She’s expecting me.” the peon responded quickly “she’ll be right out sir.” I schmoozed with him for minute or two while I waited for my adversary to come.
This story is getting to drawn out…I got my money back.
I had to leave a message for the GM. I had to write a formal complaint. I had to file some stuff with my credit card. I had to call the corporate office not once, not twice, but thrice. But I got my money back…now, if I could only find a way to fix my broken hard drive and retrieve the pictures of my son and all my music…

  1. Well done… Well done.I always wonder how many of my pictures I actually have backed up… Maybe I should check.

  2. So, they gave your money back, but they didn't honor their warranty? Okay, that's still better than expected. Cool.If you pick up new hard drive, they are generally very easy to install (I rebuilt several laptops a few years ago). If you want to email me the model of your computer (theemailineveruse@nerdshack.com), I'm sure I can find instructions. As for the stuff on your old HD, it all depends on what caused the problem; you may be able to just switch out the old logic board, and that shouldn't be too hard either.May God bless your computer as it struggles with rebirth.

  3. The bad news is that Brent came over today to work on the hard drive and as it turns out it is completely dead. I think the only option at this point would be to pay somebody big bucks to take the drive apart, pull out the disk and rebuild a new hard drive with the disk.In other words, three months worth of lost pictures don't justify getting all that done. Luckily the last three months have been filled with puking and bed rest…not to much to miss in the long run.

  4. Three months of pictures is a lot easier to get over… Most people go way more than three months without taking any pictures!

  5. I posted on the "BNest Buy Sucks" blog before reading this one – cheers on the 'conflict resolution' (finally).Contact Enu Computers over by the Airport – they are super-cheep and super-smart about building computers and hardware. If anyone can get you what you need, they will be a good place to check.Or you could check out FreeGeeks.Com – they are a non-profit computer joint also in PDX who would be able to assist you in your plight.
